Safe and Unsafe Food List

You can print the above poster at Peanut Allergy Info.

The following is a list of foods that are safe for Jack to eat. Please keep in mind that he will probably still ask me if it is okay for him to have something, even if he's had it before.

Also, please don't be offended if we decline on something that you've made at home. Jack's general rule is to only eat foods we've brought for him. And sometimes decisions that are made are pure judgment calls and are affected by what we feel comfortable with at the time.

One more thing....some products may not actually peanuts in them (for example, plain M&M's) but are still not on the list of things Jack can have. Often there is a warning on the package saying something like "manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts" or "may contain traces of peanut". It's hard for people to understand sometimes why any old vanilla ice cream isn't just fine. Cross contamination reactions can happen so we stick with those products that we have experience with. If he's never eaten a certain product before we'll probably have him avoid it unless we are with him to closely monitor the situation. Remember he's only 9. We as his parents are ultimately responsible for what foods he eats.

For more information about cross contamination please see "It's All About Cross Contamination".

Disclaimer: These are foods that Jack has consumed before and have not been a problem for him. This list is not meant to be a guarantee for any other person. These are simply items that we've used successfully in the past.

***Ingredient labels can change at any time. Please check the label each time.

Hi. We just found out our 2 yr old daughter has a severe peanut allergy.

How did you determine the SAFE foods above?

Mostly by reading labels---lots! I've also spent a lot of time at www.peanutallergy.com. It's a great resource. I've also sort of learned which companies have trustworthy labeling. The top company in my opinion is General Mills.
